Nursing School Costs $$$$$$$$$$

7/13/2021

I haven't even started school yet, and I have spent so much money.  My school requires the following in order to start nursing school.

  1. Complio - the school uses this to gather all of your vaccines, titers, and other requirements to share with the hospital - 2 year subscription - $45
  2. Background Check - level 2 - $129
  3. Tdap - Can't be more than 10 years old.  Fortunately I received this vaccine when I had my daughter in March.
  4. Varicella (chickenpox) - I paid a $76 copay at the urgent care in order to have the blood work drawn for my titers.  Luckily I was immune to varicella.
  5. MMR - I was immune.
  6. TB - My test was positive so I had to have a chest x-ray.  My copay at the clinic was $50 for the chest x-ray.  My x-ray was clear.
  7. Hepatitis B - I was not immune so I have to get the 3 dose vaccine.  I got the first dose and the next one is set for 30 days later.  My insurance covered the vaccine,
  8. Student Health Record Form - Once my chest x-ray came back clear I went back to the urgent where I paid another $50 copay to have them fill out the student health record form.
  9. Drug Screening - 10 panel - $35
  10. CPR - BLS from the American Heart Association - $55.  The college was offering it for $89 but fortunately I found a more affordable class.
  11. Uniform - 2 scrub bottoms, 1 clinical scrub top, 1 class scrub top - $136
  12. Stethoscope - $103
  13. Notebooks, penlights, bandage scissors - $26
  14. White leather shoes and compression socks - $56
  15. National Student Nurse Association Membership - $37 for one year

Total: $798

Chile, you have to be rich or have a good credit card to afford nursing school.  I still have to buy my textbooks and pay for classes.  Fortunately, I did receive a grant which will pay most of my tuition and I'm expecting some more grants and hopefully a scholarship that will pay for the rest of it.  Come what may I know my God will provide!

XOXO,

Orientation

I attended orientation last week.  What a ride!  I guess I should start by saying they didn't say anything I didn't already know.  Because of my natural curiosity and excitement I had already watched previous years orientations and googled every scrap of information there is on the internet.

It was a 2 day orientation.  I had the opportunity to go in person which was awesome because it was a chance to rub shoulders with students and faculty and get a tour.  Disappointment # 1 I got super sick that same week.    Luckily by Thursday I was feeling a little better.  Disappointment # 2 So many students showed up for orientation that they had most of us in overflow rooms.  We could have stayed home for that.  They did partially make up for it by giving us lunch.  While on campus they talked about uniforms so I headed to the bookstore and bought 2 pairs of scrub pants, a class scrub top and a clinical scrub top.  At the end of the orientation I connected with the sweetest young lady and I was able to join the group chat for our Full Time generic group.

Orientation Day 2 was fully online and that was a joke.  The only part that was worth my time and energy was the presentation on studying techniques.  They gave us valuable techniques that I look forward to trying.

In other news the chat has been very interesting.  I know I'm going to buy another scrub top for class and because of the group chat I know where to get it for cheap.  I've also obtained the book list, received tons of info, and met other classmates because of the chat.

I'm excited for nursing school and look forward to the next steps.

XOXO,
T
